Marylanders To Prevent Gun Violence Informing Voters in Legislative District 9B On How Candidates Stand on Life-Saving Fingerprint Licensing of Handgun Purchasers

This weekend, Marylanders To Prevent Gun Violence, Inc. (MPGV) sent out the attached mailing to voters in Legislative District 9B informing them about how the canidiates for Delegate in that district stand on Maryland’s new life-saving requirement that handgun purchasers first get a fingerprint based background check and license from the state police.

Also attached is a poll from earlyOctober MPGV commissioned in District 9B by respected pollster OpinionWorks showing that 81% of voters in the District, including 68% of gun owners and 69% of Republicans, support fingerprint licensing of handgun purchasers. This tracks the attached similar poll OpinionWorks did of all Marylanders in February of 2013 showing that 81% of all Maryland voters support fingerprint licensing of handgun purchasers. Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence does not endorse candidates for political office but we do inform voters about how candidates stand on key gun violence prevention issues.

“The voters of Legislative District 9B, like voters across Maryland, strongly support the life saving fingerprint licensing provision in the Firearm Safety Act of 2103,” said Vincent DeMarco, President of Marylanders To Prevent Gun Violence. “We are doing what we can to make sure that the voters in District 9B know that Democratic candidate Tom Coale supports fingerprint licensing to keep handguns out of the hands of criminals while Republican Bob Flanagan opposes it.”
