MPGV Praises Historic Vote By Maryland State Senate

… legislation should serve as a model for other states and our nation.

Annapolis, MD (February 28, 2013) – Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence Board President, Vincent DeMarco, released the following statement praising the historic vote by the Maryland State Senate to approve Governor Martin O’Malley’s Firearms Safety Act of 2013. The Maryland House of Delegates will begin debating the legislation tomorrow.

“The Maryland State Senate today brought Maryland closer to saving many lives from gun violence. By approving Governor O’Malley’s historic Firearms Safety Act of 2013, the Senate recognized that fingerprint-based licensing of handgun purchasers is the best way for states to reduce gun violence.

“By reducing straw purchases, limiting high-capacity magazines, and banning assault weapons, Governor O’Malley’s legislation should serve as a model for other states and our nation. We call on the House of Delegates to act soon to pass this life-saving measure.” ###
